Helderberg community celebrates heroic Security guard

Andries Monare a security guard at Waterstone Village Shopping Center in Somerset West was honored by the Helderberg community on Thursday. Monare was recognized for his heroic act of saving two children from an attempted attack in the shopping center.

It is reported that Monare noticed the accused man holding a knife heading for a little boy in a trolley, he subsequently overpowered the man by force as he attempted to stab the boy in the chest.

In a statement shared via Facebook, the mall said . “We are just thankful that no harm was caused to the child and we keep the parents in our prayers.”

Monare received a service excellence award and gifts from the community for his bravery.

The accused is set to appear in court on the 23rd of January.
