Green Point Flea Market

The Green Point Flea Market reopened this Sunday and the City of Cape Town is looking for a substitute venue for the market on event days, the market is currently using the P4 parking area.

The market made a come back after 10 years but trading had to be suspended last week due to a Cape Town City F.C match that was being held at the stadium.

The City of Cape Town announced on December 30 2019, that the Green Point Flea Market would not operate on event days and this left traders disgruntled as they claimed they had been given short notice.

A group of traders picketed against the move made by the City of Cape Town.

Mayco member for urban management Grant Twigg said it had been common knowledge that stadium events are given priority over the flea market.

Twig added that for the next two weeks traders will temporarily use the P4 parking area that is adjacent to the athletics stadium.

“The P4 parking area is attractive, safe and secure, easily accessible, and supports the historical and environmental area.”

According to Twigg the City of Cape Town wants the flea market to be a permanent Sunday feature on its calendar.
