Extra Golden Arrow buses will be deployed to transport commuters following the closure of Route B97 between Paarl and Bellville.
Western Cape MEC of Transport and Public Works, Daylin Mitchell said extra bus trips have been scheduled between Bellvillle and Paarl for two months from, Monday 26 July 2021.
Commuters will also be able to use existing Metrorail train services between Bellville and Paarl.
“I took this extraordinary step to stop violence between rival taxi associations that has seen 24 people being killed and another 29 injured, and to deal with significant disruptions to public transport in the Metro South-East region,” Mitchell said.
Arbitration between the two rival associations is expected to take place next week in attempt to resolve the impasse.
