Elsies River Community Takes Matters into Their Own Hands with Massive Crime-Preventing Wall

The escalating crime in the area prompted Elsies River residents to build a crime prevention wall.

Residents in Elsies River, Cape Town built a 2.3m high by nearly 20m wide wall to prevent criminals from accessing their community after their attempts to get the City to intervene failed.

The City of Cape Town threatened to demolish the wall, and the community is now in a dispute with the City, claiming that the wall is an important crime prevention measure.

The City did not confirm whether they had received complaints before the wall was built.

What you can do:

  • Reach out to the City of Cape Town to discuss the wall and the need for crime prevention in the area.
  • Research other crime prevention strategies that could be implemented in the community.
  • Connect with other local residents to discuss ways to work together to improve safety in the area.
