Members of the EFF in the Western Cape staged a picket in Tokai over alleged racism following an incident where black and coloured children allegedly consumed poisoned fruits.
Tokai resident Arthur Mckey, claims that his fruit tree was poisoned because children of colour picked the fruit that fell from the tree.
He said he was told that he was attracting the wrong type of people into the upmarket suburb.
Mckey said he put up a notice board around his property to caution people about the poisoning but they were removed.

Deputy chairperson of the EFF Nosipho Makamba Botya said they decided to picket to show that racism is common in Tokai and it should come to an end.
Botya said the City ignored an incident that was reported of children picking and eating poisoned fruits, but acted swiftly to investigate when a tree from the area was seen to be dying from suspected poisoning.
“In cases where a poison tree bears no fruits and its existence is just for the pleasure of white people, then the City will leave no stone unturned in its quest to investigate and find perpetrators of such an act,” said Botya.
