EFF vows to defend Western Cape Judge President John Hlophe

The Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) says it is going to defend the judge president of the Western Cape, Judge John Hlophe, from the “white arrogance of the judiciary”.

This comes after the Judicial Service Commission (JSC) voted that Hlophe be impeached.

Hlophe was found guilty of misconduct for attempting to sway two Constitutional Court justices in a matter involving former president Jacob Zuma.

On Monday there were accusations of racism in Parliament where the EFF vowed to defend Hlophe.

“We are going to defend our own. He is a black judge whom we do understand that he is being persecuted under the white arrogance of the judiciary in this country,” said the EFF’s Hlengiwe Mkhaliphi.

Hlophe’s impeachment will first be discussed by the justice committee before the National Assembly votes on his removal.

His removal will require a two-thirds majority.
