EFF: Stratcom to blame for Hout Bay debate violence

It has become common practice that many parties and prominent individuals, as well as agents of Stratcom, want to provoke the EFF and its members.

The Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) has blamed Stratcom for the violent scenes at the SABC debate in Hout Bay on Friday. In a statement, EFF spokesperson Mbuyiseni Ndlozi said though they condemn the incident, they also “call on all fighters to exercise restraint at all times, particularly during elections”.

Chaotic scenes played out on live television when EFF and Land Party supporters started throwing chairs at each other during an SABC election debate in Hout Bay on Friday. Supporters of the Black First Land First and Good party were also seen involved in the skirmishes.

Commenting on the incident, the EFF said other political parties and Stratcom are out to provoke the EFF.

It has become common practice that many parties and prominent individuals, as well as agents of Stratcom, want to provoke the EFF and its members.

This is because of the obvious progress we are making as a party and the inevitable victory on May the 8th. Whatever happens, we must never fall into this trap, as it seeks precisely to derail us from our well-deserved victory.

Stratcom was a group within the apartheid government that was specifically tasked to create and carry out disinformation campaigns. This included propaganda, fake news as well as smear campaigns against those fighting against apartheid.
