A truck carrying more than 100 bodies, believed to be Covid-19 victims was stopped by traffic officials on the N2 near Somerset West on Saturday afternoon.
According to information, traffic officials stopped and searched the truck at the N2 weigh bridge near Somerset Mall and discovered 106 bodies.
It is understood that the truck was en route to the Eastern Cape and the driver had a permit to transport the bodies.
Western Cape police spokesperson Colonel Andre Traut told News24 that police are investigating the circumstances under which the corpses were being transported.
