The hospital managers on Monday warned that there now is an increased risk of spreading the coronavirus as the country continues to experience a rapid and steep rise in Covid-19 cases.
Head of nursing at Groote Schuur Hospital Aghmat Mohamed confirmed that no visitor will be allowed unless the person is terminally ill and the visit has been arranged beforehand by the doctor in charge.
Other measures taken by the hospital to prevent the spread of Covid-19 include reducing outpatient appointments.
In the Western Cape the number of active coronavirus cases has spiked to 12 767.
Hospitalisations stand at 1244 with 305 patients being treated in ICU.
