Community volunteer injured in gang crossfire,while protecting a child

When the shootout started Daniels managed to shove a kid behind a barrier, and the bullet caught her on the ear.

A community policing forum volunteer from Mitchel’s Plain was shot and injured while protecting a child during a gang shootout that erupted on Monday.

The forum’s deputy chairperson Ashley Potts said “It was two rival gangs shooting at each other in broad daylight

Potts said the CPF projects coordinator Shakeenah Daniels, was walking some children home when she was shot. Walking children home is one of the forum’s several initiatives to ensure safety for children, following an increase in rapes and murders in the area.

When the shootout  started Daniels managed to shove a kid behind a barrier, and the bullet caught her on the ear.

She was treated and discharged on Tuesday and none of the children were physically hurt.

The police’s Anti-Gang Unit (AGU) made two arrests in connection with the shooting.
