Community Policing Forums in Cape Town give Police Minister, Bheki Cele a 48 hour ultimatum

"There should be resources sent to all the affected areas...Those resources should be accompanied with the SANDF..."

Various Community Policing Forums in Cape Town affected by gang violence have given the Police Minister, Bheki Cele 48 hours to stabilise the situation, during a meeting in Athlone last night.

They want Minister Cele to place the violent communities under lockdown.

CPF are calling for immediate and proper action by Cele.

CPF Chairperson of the Mitchell Plain Cluster, Lucinda Evans, says they are calling on Cele to place the Western Cape Police Service under administration. She adds there’s also a need for the army to be deployed:

‘The emergency stabilisation is the following: There should be resources sent to all the affected areas that are currently experiencing gang violence. Those resources should be accompanied with the SANDF if those numbers of vehicles are in one area what happens to the other area that flares up? So what we are saying to the national minister, you send the deployment accompanied by the SANDF.”

They warned if the issues are not addressed within the allocated time they will embark on strategic action – which will take place at the offices of the Western Cape Police Services in Cape Town.
