Cape Town woke up to widespread protest action this morning Monday, 27 July 2020.
The Cape Coloured Peoples’ Congress say they are protesting against poor service delivery in coloured communities.
Incidents of burning tyres and barricading roads have been reported in Lwandle in the Strand, Eerste River, Kraaifontein, Bellville South and Atlantis.
Western Cape Police have confirmed the arrest of five people in Steenberg and Jakes Gerwel Road in Bishop Lavis.
This despite the Cape Coloured People’s Congress leaders Fadiel Adams’, assertions that the protest action would be peaceful.
MetroRail services have also been suspended due to the risk posed to commuters, staff and essential infrastructure.
