Cape Town toddler dies after falling into a drain

Roelof Mare said the tragic incident happened after the toddler ran ahead of his father whilst they were taking a walk in Dennemere.

The family of a 2 year old boy who fell into a drain and died has been traumatized by the incident that happened in Cape Town’s Blackheath on Friday, a ward Councillor has said.

Speaking to News24, ward councillor Roelof Mare said the tragic incident happened after the toddler ran ahead of his father whilst they were taking a walk in Dennemere.

He fell into a drain and his father tried to get him out

Emergency services entered the sewer in a rescue attempt but unfortunately the toddler did not make it out alive.

Cape Town police spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Andrè Traut said the police have started investigating the incident.

The circumstances surrounding the death of a 2-year-old boy are being investigated after he fell into a drain behind Blackheath Primary School in Blackheath yesterday afternoon.

A death inquest case docket has been registered.
