Cape Town to host remainder of British and Irish Lions Tour

The City of Cape Town has welcomed a decision by rugby authorities to have the remainder of the British and Irish Lions rugby tour played in Cape Town.

The first test against the Springboks will be played at the Cape Town Stadium this Saturday.

Cape Town will also host the second test, scheduled for 31 July 2021, and third test on 7 August 2021.

All games will be played at the Cape Town Stadium in line with current national Disaster Management Act regulations prohibiting spectators at sports events.

“Cape Town is excited to host the first test this weekend, which will be the first Lions and Springbok clash to be held in the city since 1997. Having already successfully hosted the two warm up games, our teams from the City and the Cape Town Stadium are working with the rugby authorities to ensure we make the upcoming games a memorable experience,” said Executive Mayor Alderman Dan Plato.
