Cape Town Station power failure disrupts train operations

Scott has advised commuters to allow for delays until after the morning peak travel times.
Cape Town Station

A power failure early this morning at Cape Town Station has resulted in a suspension of train operations between central Cape Town and Salt River and Esplanade.

According to Western Cape Metrorail spokesperson Rianna Scott, the power failure meant signals on the approach to the station were inoperable, therefore all the trains were being halted on the affected lines.

Scott said :

“This means that none of the train sets stabled overnight on platforms at Cape Town Station can depart from the station at the moment, nor can any from other stations/depots be admitted into CT Station.”

Signal power was restored at 6.30 am and trains were then able to operate normally.

Scott has advised commuters to allow for delays until after the morning peak travel times.
