Cape Town refugees say they have nowhere to go as deadline looms to vacate temporary sites in Bellville and Kensington

A large group of foreign nationals who were living inside the Central Methodist church in Cape Town was yesterday relocated to Bellville. The refugees are currently living in a marquee tent, and have said they are not happy about their new accommodation.

It had been previously reported that the refugees would be relocated to the Wingfield Military Base near Goodwood.

Spokesperson, Caroline Shembe said they are now more exposed to the coronavirus than when they were living inside the Central Methodist Church.

She said the tent is overcrowded and its difficult for the group to sleep in the crowded space.

The refugees are seeking President Cyril Ramaphosa’s intervention in this matter.
