Police officers have been attacked by community members while arresting a well-known gangster in Cape Town.
NARI reported that the incident occurred early morning on Saturday.
Kensington CPU members saw a known gang member, walking with an exposed firearm in Matroos Plein. They apprehended the suspect and confiscated the firearm.
The suspect immediately started calling out for help and around 30 unknown members of the community came out of their homes, threatening to shoot the police members if the suspect is not released.
Police and police vehicles were pelted with stones by the community members, resulting in the escape of the gunman.
The firearm that was confiscated was positively linked to a Kimberley case and was handed in at Kensington SAPS on a charge of possession of unlicensed firearm and attack on police.
