A cape town Father staged a one-man protest against a local high school and the Western Cape Department of Education, after his daughter failed to gain admission at a local school.
The man believes his daughter was denied a place at Pinelands High School due to a past relationship he has with the school that went sour. He held a protest outside Pinelands High School on Friday.
Garth Lucas said his relationship with the school went bad following the opening of his business in 2014 .
He claims that his business put a lot of financial strain on him, resulting in his failure to pay school fees for a year.
According to Lucas his daughter meets all requirements for admission at the school.
“The admission policy and process was not administered fairly and the entire process was discriminant [sic] and unfair towards my daughter…”
Lucas appealed to the Western Cape Education MEC Debbie Schaefer after failure to solve the problem with the school management. His appeal was however dismissed.
Officials said the School received 700 applications, placing only 188 pupils per grade then later 195 pupils per grade because of the high number of applications. Moreover, the school had 26 children on its waiting list and his daughter was number 12 on that list.
