Cape Town authorities confiscated 70000 litres of booze at Cape Town beaches during the festive season.

This was revealed by Cape Town’s Mayoral Committee Member for Community Services and Health, Zahid Badroodien, in an interview with Cape Talk’s Nickolaus Bauer.

No alcohol is allowed at any of our beaches… Beach users are very clever how they hide their alcohol, whether it’s in watermelons or the sand… About 70 000 litres of alcohol has been confiscated at our beaches this festive season alone, said Badroodien.

Badroodien also bemoaned the lack of child supervision by parents highlighting that in some instances of a child drowning, the adults were intoxicated.

A total of 13 people drowned at sea and one in a pool during the festive season in Cape Town.
