The trio accused of trafficking and keeping an endangered lion cub in Athlone Cape Town have appeared in court for the first time after their arrest.
Sulaiman, Shurud Jacobs and Moegamat Rayaan Simons made their first appearance at the Wynberg Magistrates’ Court.
Moments before taking the stand, Sulaiman Jacobs burst into tears when he saw his friends and relatives who came to support him.
The trio are facing 14 charges relating to the protection of wild animals.
The State asked for R10 000 bail for Jacobs and R5000 for the other two accused.
Meanwhile, members from the Stock and Endangered Species Unit are now searching for a second lion cub, which was smuggled from Limpopo along with the first one which was found at Sulaiman’s home in Lawrence Road, Athlone last Wednesday night.
The matter was postponed to 27 November.
