An e-hailing service cab driver ran over two women while attempting to evade robbers.
According to the South African Police Services (SAPS), the driver now faces charges of culpable homicide as one of the women subsequently died.
“The Uber driver fled the scene on foot. His vehicle was booked in exhibit. Our detectives are following up on all leads,” SAPS spokesperson, Captain FC Van Wyk, said.
Van Wyk confirmed that there were three unidentified assailants who attempted to rob the driver before the tragic incident occurred.
The victims aged 26 and 28 years old were tragically knocked down by the car in Langa.
One of the victims was rushed to Groote Schuur Hospital with a severe head injury, and the other victim passed away.
Bolt (formerly Taxify) driver, Robin Dreyden, was laid to rest just over two weeks ago after he fell victim to a stabbing when picking up a customer in Langa. Another e-hailing services driver, Gift Gandari, passed away after being stabbed in Brooklyn while he was working.
