A Zwelethemba Secondary School pupil has been suspended after he was recorded slapping a female classmate.
The video which was doing the rounds on social media yesterday shows the pupil slapping his classmate in the face before walking away with some fellow students cheering him on while others react with shock.
Education MEC Debbie Schäfer was tagged on the viral video by social media users, requesting her to investigate the incident.
In a Tweet, Schäfer revealed that the offender had been suspended for five days, adding that there is more to the story.
“ There is more to the story, but this behaviour is still unacceptable. I cannot discuss the details in a public forum.”
According to Department spokesperson Bronagh Hammond the incident occurred after the male pupil accidentally stepped on the female pupil’s foot.
“When entering the class he apologised and class resumed as per normal. After class the female pupil allegedly assaulted the male pupil.
“The male pupil retaliated in class. The pupil has been suspended and a final warning was issued to both pupils for their behaviour.”
