A Western Cape Task Team, consisting of organised crime detectives, has been established to investigate a spree of shooting incidents this weekend in Nyanga and Khayelitsha.
Police spokesperson, Noloyiso Rwexana said five people were shot dead during a series of house robberies in Samora Machel on Sunday.
In another incident on Sunday a 28-year old woman was shot and killed when nine suspects stormed into a tavern in Khayelitsha and opened fire on patrons. Thirteen others were injured.
On Monday morning a gunman opened fire at another tavern in Harare, fatally wounding a 25 year old man and four other victims two males and two females.
The wounded victims were transported to a medical facility for treatment.
Police said: “Robbery as a motive is not ruled out as personal belongings were robbed from the victims in some of the incidents.”
