A three-year-old boy was shot dead in a crossfire during an exchange of gunshots in Rylands, Cape Town, on Monday morning.

Western Cape social development MEC Albert Fritz, said the toddler died in hospital.

He said unidentified men in a white light delivery vehicle opened fire in the direction of the child’s home.

“Violence, especially against children, has no place in our society. We all have a role to play as government, civil society, religious leaders, and families to ensure that we work tirelessly to eradicate violence in all its forms,” he said.

He called on parents and communities to be vigilant when it comes to the safety of children.

The motive of the shooting is still unclear, meanwhile, Social workers have been deployed to the area.
