5 pupils stabbed at a Valentine’s afterparty

“While we are concerned about the reports of violence at the party, the event was not an official school event and took place outside of school hours."

A massive brawl involving 1200 children from various schools in Cape Town resulted in 5 pupils being stabbed.

According to Wayne Dyason, spokesman for the City of Cape Town’s law enforcement, the incident happened on Friday afternoon in Claremont at a Valentine’s continuation party.

The fight is said to have begun at the park in the area and moved on to the bus terminus.

Five children were stabbed and two were rushed to hospital, one suffered a stab wound to his abdomen.

Police confiscated a toy gun, pangas and alcohol from the scene .

Law enforcement brought the situation under control and dispersed the crowds.

Western Cape Education Department (WCED) spokesperson, Jessica Shelver, said they cannot provide comment as the incident took place outside school hours.

“While we are concerned about the reports of violence at the party, the event was not an official school event and took place outside of school hours.”

“We, therefore, cannot provide comment in this regard. It is also not clear what caused the fight or if the children attend WCED schools,” Shelver said.
