A man who was allegedly released on parole two weeks ago, has been accused of raping a 14-year-old girl and is expected to appear in the Piketberg Magistrate’s Court today.

Police are also investigating allegations of attempted rape of a second victim against the same man.

Community leader Billy Claasen, revealed that the accused has a previous conviction for raping a 10-year-old and was released on parole.

The 14-year-old was allegedly raped last week according to Claasen.

“The victim fought back and bit the alleged rapist in the neck. I’ve met with the victim and her family and she is not doing well at all. She is receiving counselling,” added Claasen.

The case has caused an uproar in the community with residents calling for President Cyril Ramaphosa and the Justice and Correctional Services minister to investigate the amnesty and parole of certain inmates.

ANC whip of the Justice and Correctional Services portfolio committee, Hishaam Mohamed is expected to request from the relevant departments, a record of those with previous convictions who were released over the past 16 months.
