A man believed to have been stealing cables at the Bonteheuwel Train Station on the Cape Flats was electrocuted to death, the Western Cape Metrorail has revealed.

Metrorail spokesperson Riana Scott confirmed the incident.

” Our protection services received a report in the early hours of Wednesday the 12th of February of an alleged electrocution on Bontehuewel Station.”

She added that the matter is being investigated.

In July 2019 the Passenger Rail Agency of South Africa (Prasa) revealed plans to employ new security companies, with performance-based contractual arrangements. The new agreements were aimed at reducing the vandalism and theft on rail infrastructure.
