A man believed to have been hijacked was found burnt to death in the boot of a car in Cape Town on Wednesday night.
Two women were given a lift by two males on Wednesday night, while in the car the women saw a body at the back of the car.
Ocean View police spokesperson Sergeant Leon Fortuin said the women tried to get out of the vehicle but the two men prevented them and in the process crashed into another car.
The vehicle that had been crashed into gave chase but had to back away after the men in the hijacked car pointed guns towards their car.
As he was reversing he saw the two men setting the car on fire.
Fortunately the women had managed to get out of the hijacked vehicle and run away.
It is suspected that the victim in the boot had been shot, but was still alive at that point.
The women have been traced, but the two men who were the passenger and driver of the hijacked car are still at large.
A murder investigation is underway.
