A 7-year-old Manenberg child was shot and injured while asleep in his home during a shootout between rival gangs in Red River Street on Sunday night.
According to Radio 786 the shooting comes in the wake of tensions between the Jesters and American gangs.
The boy who was shot multiple times is said to be in a stable condition after emergency surgery.
The Western Cape health department has confirmed that a boy matching the description was admitted to a healthcare facility in the province.
Police have not yet confirmed the details of the incident.
Child protection week commenced in the country yesterday, and is commemorated annually to raise awareness on the rights of children.
