A 43-year-old man from Bloubergstrand drowned at Betty’s Bay while looking for crayfish.

National Sea Rescue Institute (NSRI) said the man had been with a friend when he went missing on Sunday. His body was recovered from sea on Monday.

NSRI’s Craig Lambinon said the friend raised an alarm after he got out of the water but waited for him to return to no avail.

Rescue services located a person drifting below the water’s surface in a bay after an extensive search.

The man was brought to shore and declared dead by paramedics.

Police are investigating the incident

“NSRI, police and emergency services convey condolences to family and friends of the deceased man,” said Lambinon.
