9 dogs rescued from Cape Town dog fighting ring

The Cape of Good Hope SPCA Inspectorate together with Law Enforcement Animal Control Unit rescued nine dogs from a local dog fighting ring in Mitchell’s Plain, Cape Town.

The organisation obtained a court order after an anonymous tip-off with video evidence was received.

“It is very concerning that the video footage we obtained showed how the children were enjoying the dog fights and encouraging it to happen,” said SPCA spokesperson Belinda Abraham.

Inspectors found dogs on short static chains. Some dogs have deep tissue scaring, a clear indication of dogfighting.

They also discovered backyard breeding taking place.

All the dogs, including three puppies are now in the care of the SPCA.

“They will remain in our care until the matter is concluded by the courts or until a magistrate rules otherwise,” Abraham said.
