Second bus goes up in flames in Cape Town, three hours after the first

The bus, which had no passengers aboard, stopped in the middle lane and the driver escaped.

A second bus went up in flames in Cape Town on Thursday afternoon.

The MyCiTi bus was heading into the city centre on Nelson Mandela Boulevard when it caught fire.

Less than three hours earlier, a Golden Arrow bus was gutted by fire at the Cape Town Terminal as it waited to load passengers.

City of Cape Town mayoral committee member JP Smith said the MyCiTi fire started in the engine compartment of the bus as it climbed Hospital Bend shortly before 5pm, and quickly engulfed the vehicle.

The bus, which had no passengers aboard, stopped in the middle lane and the driver escaped.

Meanwhile, a Golden Arrow spokesperson has said the cause of the blaze is still unknown, however there is no reason to suspect arson.
