Five people were killed after three unidentified suspects opened fire at a taxi rank in Vredebed, Ceres on Tuesday morning.
A statement released by the South African Police Service (SAPS) said information from the the crime scene indicates that three yet-to-be identified suspects opened fire indiscriminately on taxis at a taxi rank after 7:00.
Four people died on the scene while one man was seriously wounded and later died in hospital.
The identities of the deceased are yet to be released.
Police suspect that the shooting incident is taxi conflict related.
Detectives from the provincial taxi task team are still combing the scene for clues following the shooting incident.
