28 people were arrested on Saturday night after hijacking a Communicare social housing block in Bothasig, Cape Town.

Communicare CEO Anthea Houston said the invaders arrived at the Bothasig apartments in a minibus and other vehicles and occupied some apartments.

“We received a report that our guards were held at gunpoint.”

“Police responded quickly to apprehend them and 28 people were arrested over several hours,” Houston said.

Adding that 17 apartments were damaged during the invasion.

The suspects are expected to appear in the Goodwood magistrate’s court on Monday.

Last month illegal occupiers living at the Communicare Albatross flats in Thornton were evicted following a court order.

The invaders were evicted after 20 months of them living illegally and rent-free at the organisation’s premises.
