One of the four men arrested after being found with the stolen guns after the double murder of Law Enforcement officials in Philippi was behind bars three years ago for allegedly killing a cop.
Ashwin Kennedy, 22, was just 19 in 2016 when he was arrested for the murder of police officer Amanda Ladlokova and injuring her colleague.
Kennedy is was recently arrested following the double murder of two law enforcement officers who were providing protection to a construction crew in Philippi. The two officers were shot in the head and their service pistols were stolen by the shooters.
Officer Jannie Niewenhuys, 54, and Simthembile Nyangiwe, 49, were sitting inside their marked Law Enforcement vehicle when they came under attack at Sweet Home Farm in Philippi on Wednesday at 1.45pm.
The men were critically injured and taken to hospital in two helicopters where they both passed away soon after.
According to The Daily Voice, on 22 November 2016, Ladlokova and her colleague were attending a domestic violence incident in Philippi-East when a woman asked them to help with another situation.
When they arrived at the second house, shots were fired.
Ladlokova was shot three times while her colleague was wounded in the neck. Witnesses claimed Kennedy stole the cops’ guns. Police and the NPA did not respond to queries about why Kennedy was released.
