The Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) Western Cape branch says the party is happy with the progress it has made in the Western Cape during the 2019 elections. The EFF has doubled their votes in the province from 2% in 2014, to now claim 4%.
Speaking to the Weekend Argus, EFF election co-ordinator for the Western Cape Melikaya Xego said the party was pleased with its progress.
We have actually doubled our votes. We’ve gained votes right through all the regions. We are happy with the progress and ready for the next local government elections.
The EFF particularly performed well in the Cape Town metro, with votes climbing from 35000 in 2014 to 65000 this year.
Xego also highlighted an increase in EFF votes in predominantly white areas. Voting districts that delivered zero EFF votes in the 2016 municipal elections now saw handfuls of votes coming in.
“I won’t say that there are a lot of whites who have voted for us, but there’s an increase,” Xego said.
