200 additional police officers have been deployed in the Western Cape as force multipliers in hot spots across the province
The officials will help tackle violence and crime and gangsterism plaguing the province.
They gathered in Belhar earlier on Wednesday 7 April where they were addressed by Police Minister General Bheki Cele.
They will be deployed to crime hotspots including Khayelitsha, Delft, Mfuleni, Nyanga and the Philippi East policing precincts.
Cele said the Western Cape remained stubborn when it came to crime issues.
“It remains stubborn in several crime categories. Out of 30 top crime stations, you would find that more than 10 of those stations come from this province, especially from this city.”
The Minister also said gangsterism needs to be rooted out from the province;
“We are just giving a warning that we are here because there are a lot of people dying. So, it is important that everybody ensures that the people of this place also enjoy peace.”
